Season Four of Big Love

If anybody had told me that I would end up watching a television show about a family of polygamists...well, I might have believed it since, in the last few years, I've watched a series about a mob family (Sopranos), a series about a family of undertakers (Six Feet Under), a series about a group of lesbians in LA (The L Word), a series about a serial killer (Dexter)...Oh, there's also the one about the high school coach who becomes a male "call guy" (Hung), the houswife who has multiple personality disorder (United States of Tara), the one about a group of space cowboys who try to stay employed following the aftermath of a civil war (Firefly) and the reimagined "saga of a Star World", Battlestar Galactica (Ron Moore's redoing of the show far exceeded the original: BSG was truly the best drama on television for the five years that it ran).

Almost forgot, there's Lost, a show that is really incredible in its level of detail and the degree to which all plot elements inevitably connect (I have to wonder how many people do not consider themselves sci-fi fans yet find themselves drawn to Lost, and I suspect this may number millions).

Yes, I might have believed it. I don't know, however, if I would have believed that I would end up liking it so much, even despite the fact that it seems impossible for any show to keep extending, episode after episode, such an amazing amount of plot intrigue and near-disaster. This season of Big Love is no different; in fact it just keeps getting better.

And that includes the new title song and intro for the show, which I think is a beautiful combination of sight and sound.
