How long is the Social Security Disability Evaluation Process?

Here's a link to a post by a blogger who has had to deal with the social security disability system. You'll notice early in the post her disclosure that the process has taken her three long years.

Judging by the blogger's profile, she is in Utah. Apparently, disability cases, from beginning to end, are no faster there than in other parts of the nation (including North Carolina, my own state).

Very often, in fact, when asked how long the disability process may potentially be, I'll use 3 years as a benchmark. This, of course, is a likely timeframe for a claimant who 1. gets denied at the initial claim level, 2. files their first appeal and gets denied at this level, and then 3. requests a hearing before an administrative law judge.
